Extending Low Temperature Shift Catalyst Lives

What are the most important factors to consider when selecting a shift catalyst? There are many ways in which this question might be answered as each plant will have itsown combination of design, age and operating conditions. Some operators are concerned about the by-product methanol they produce; some want long lives; some have corporate environmental drivers; some think that overall plant efficiency is key whilst others look for reliability above everything else. This paper will consider some of these factors and how the right catalyst choice extends the operating life of low temperature shift operation.
