Precision Agriculture - A Novel Production Technology in the Context of Climate Change and Food Security

摘要

Food security refers as when people have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preference for active and healthy life. Future global climate change such as increased climate variability, land degradation and loss of biodiversity, in the context of social, political and economic changes, may bring unprecedented stress on food production system and food security. Problems of climate change, loss of biodiversity, desertification, water depletion, pollutions and toxicants etc. are being manifested, which in turn become unfriendly to plant, animal and human health. Precision agriculture can play a significant role in climate change mitigation and adaptation to reduce the vulnerability of agriculture to degradation of natural resources, improving factor productivity and also eco-system health including plant, animal and human being. Precision agriculture adaptation practices take time to become effective, so it is high time to act and ensure sustainable development and adapt new precision technology which can lead to enhanced crop productivity thereby ensuring sustainability and stability of the natural resources. Geospatial Indicators (Gl) can identify regions at risk due to inadequate food and water resources that are a result of inherent environmental scarcity, stress due to environmental dynamics and change, or inadequate social capital.
