THE potato has a long physiological life and thus the produce is normally cold-stored for further consumption. Diseased potatoes are more prone to storage diseases than the healthy ones. In a stray coincidence the healthy cold-stored tubers were found to be intensely pitted. The author, a scientist, spotted them in the market.
