Popularizing cultivation of Chinese potato in Kerala

Chinese potato needs further popularization and standardized cultivation practices with improved varieties. It deserves to be taken care of at the earliest. Chinese potato is a promising tuberous vegetable with very high yield potential and low-cost of production. The crop is fast spreading in rice fields of central Keraia often replacing one crop of rice. Its average yield potential is 15-20 tonnes/ha. Though price fluctuates highly, farmers get Rs 6-8/kg on an average. An early crop fetches a fancy price, 3-4 times more.
