Field experiments were conducted for three years at Pulses and Oilseeds Research Station, Berhampore, Murshidabad, West Bengal, India during rabi 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 to study the response of lentil to varying sowing time and fertilizer doses. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized block design with four replications having nine treatment combinations viz. three levels of sowing time ( Dt - sowing on 18,h October, D, - sowing on Is' November, D3 - sowing on 15"1 November ) as factor A and three levels of fertilizer dose (F, - 20,40,40 kg N, P,Os, K,0 per ha, F, - 30,60,60 kg N, P_7O_5, K,0 per ha, F} - 40,80,80 kg N, P,Os, K0O per ha) as factor B. Experimental results revealed that growth, yield attributing characters and seed yield of lentil cultivar WBL-58 were significantly influenced by sowing time, fertilizer do&e and interaction effects of these two factors. Irrespective of fertilizer doses, sowing on 15th November gave significantly higher seed yield (1533.2 kg ha~(-1)).Application of 40, 80, 80 kg N, P_7O_5, K,0 per ha significantly improved the seed yield of lentil (1424 kg ha~(-1)) irrespective of sowing time. Among the interaction effects the highest seed yield of lentil (1654.4 kg ha~(-1)) was recorded with sowingon 15th November along with application of 40,80,80 kg N, P_7O_5, K,0 per ha.
