摘要

Charcoal rot disease, caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi.) Goid., is a major yield limiting factor of sesame in West Bengal, India and around the world. Thirty sesame genotypes originated from different states of India were screened under both field and greenhouse condition for their response to charcoal rot in Pre-Kharif seasons of two consecutive years 2009 and 2010. The experimental materials were sown in RBD design with three replications under both conditions to identify sources of resistance to this disease, which can be exploited in breeding for resistance to charcoal rot. The results showed that genotype Tillotama (16.78%) and VRI-1 (68.78%) exhibited consistently resistance and susceptibility respectively under both the trial conditions during all the season. Genotypes like Uma and Rama showed differential expression in their ability to disease resistance. They were recorded as moderately resistant under field condition and susceptible under greenhouse condition.
