摘要

2007 - what a year for livestock farmers. Poor spring lamb prices, the ongoing FMD crisis and now bluetongue disease. Put this together with a significant hike in feed price and failure of the market to recognise what CAP reform is all about, and thepain is all the more acute. These are immediate painful pressures felt by struggling livestock businesses. It does not matter whether you are a breeder, rearer or finisher, this is hurting and hurting bad. I hear of finishers who are not going to finishcattle but have grain to sell instead. I hear of rearers who simply will not rear, and I see and hear the despair of breeders who feel the whole visitation of supply chain gloom ends up at their farm-gate.
