In the world of automotive manufacturing Honda is known for its expertise in producing high-quality small and medium-sized cars. But now the Japanese company is moving into the big league, as it starts production of the largest vehicle the company has ever built - a full size minivan. Designed specifically for the North American market, but also destined for some export markets including Japan, Honda's newest model, called the Odyssey, rivals the largest model from minivan market leader, Chrysler, in size. The Odyssey is being built at a brand new plant right next to Honda of Canada's existing manufacturing facility in Alliston, Ontario. With the addition of Alliston's second plant, which has an eventual full capacity of 120,000 minivans, Honda now has the total capacity in North America to build more than 900,000 vehicles, and by 2001 will have topped the one million mark.
