A host of factors are creating intense pressure on individuals, society and the eco-system rapidly increasing population, depletion of non-renewable resources, degradation of environment, accelerated speed of production, explosive growth in information technology, far reaching impact of globalisation and finally, the advent of knowledge-based era. The metallurgical fraternity has to take serious note of these developments and devise ways and means to find out solutions and approaches to survive and grow. Technology will play a key role - appropriate technology for the particular industry. Cost competitiveness, environment friendliness, building a product profile based on the unique characteristics of the metals and their alloys would be the hallmark of success.
