Inkjet coders add traceability function

A PVC-U extrusion company turned to Markem-Imaje, specialist in marking, coding and traceability solutions, to provide new state-of-the-art inkjet printers for its many production lines. Telford Extrusions, part of the ￡200m British owned Epwin Group, is a leading supplier of PVC-U extrusions servicing the new build, maintenance and improvement sectors of the private and social housing markets and the commercial building sector. Inkjet coding was needed to add traceability data to plastic extruded products, such as white and brown window frame profiling. The traceability information included a British Standards number, time/date of manufacture and a line number, all of which needed to be printed as one line of text at two metre intervals. The company embarked on a significant project to update 24 inkjet coders at its 150,000 sq ft factory in Telford, Shropshire. It was keen to review all aspects of its coding requirements and ensure greater transparency of the ongoing running and maintenance costs. After studying the application requirements, Markem-Imaje recommended that, by switching to its 9020 continuous inkjet machines, substantial cost savings could be made.
