WE last tested the comfort-focused Ventus Prime back in 2017, so it was good to try the new-for-2022 version instead of test regular and winner, the S1 evo~3. Engineers aimed to improve the new tyre's fuel economy and mileage over its Prime 3 predecessor, which usually means compromising wet grip. And that's what we saw because, while the margin was small, the Prime 4 brought up the rear in the wet tests. It was by no means the white-knuckle ride you'd expect from a last-place tyre and it struggled most in the aquaplaning tests, which are not primarily affected by a focus on economy. The biggest slip was the curved result, almost 20 per cent off the best. It was much closer in a straight line, but still remained fourth.
