摘要

The recent rapid rise in obesity and the need to act urgently are considered in these letters to the editor. A study suggesting the potentially harmful effects of fructose during the period of brain maturation in children is discussed, and a reduction or elimination of fructose from high-fructose corn syrup and of sucrose in beverages available to infants and children is recommended by the authors.
