One of the most modest men you could ever hope to meet was Hutchinson. The last thing you would expect him to do was to boast about anything. He was a very quiet sort of chap. Until you got to know him you might not think much of him. There ware some who called him "poor old Hutch." But they were the minority. To most of us he was "good old Hutch." And I think he deserved to be known like that.Any way a modest and quiet sort of chap. He would sit there with his pipe and just listen and make a few friendly comments now and again : and, well, if anybody wanted to tell a story or unload himself of anything, he would find just the right sort of listener in Hutch. You know what Apthorpe-Wrottestley is like. Just the opposite. He talks and talks big the whole time. "Old Rot" is what they call him, half affectionately and half indulgently. He is good company, no doubt, the very best, in fact, a very useful man at aparty, and that sort of thing, if you know what I mean. But in a mess a bit overpowering. You can have too much even of a good thing sometimes, you know.
