Dry root rot caused by Rhizoctonia bataticola (Taub.) Butler is an important disease of chick pea (Cicer arietinum L.). The fungus is able to survive in soil for a longer period thus, management difficult. Therefore, field trials were conducted to determine the effect of variety and date of sowing with seed treatment on disease development. The field trials were conducted during rabi season of two consecutive years (2003 & 2004) at the Oilseed Research Farm of C.S.A.U.A.& T., Kanpur. The first experiment was conducted to study the effect of date of sowing with three chick pea varieties viz. Vijay, Radhey and JG-9. The second experiment was conducted using variety Radhey on the effect of seed treatment with Sanjeevani (Trichoderma harzianum, 2 x 10~9cfu/ g) @ 10 g/kg, and date of sowing. Each experiment was conducted with three date of sowing i.e. 15th October, 1st November and 15th November of 2003 & 2004 in Factorial R.B.D. in three replications. Disease incidence of dry root rot up to 40 days after the germination of seed/m~2 of randomly selected area.
