PLANTING TREES FOR PROFIT: WA declares war on salinity

THE WESTERN Australian Government declared war on salt when it launched the State Salinity Council recently. The council is chaired by Alex Campbell, past president of the WA Farmers Federation and the Farm Forestry Development Group, a man well-versed in the positive effects of tree planting on farms. Salt-affected land can be found throughout Australia, but WA has the biggest problem with 70% of affected dryland and 36% of its divertible water resources being saline or brackish.
