Rangeland wool: group's aim is better production

摘要

TARGETING critical research and development to deliver the greatest benefits to wool producers in the semi-arid rangelands, or pastoral zone, is the aim of a new International Wool Secretariat advisory group. Through that research and development, therangelands program advisory group wants to maximise the productivity and profitability of rangeland wool producers within a sustainable grazing-management system. Due to extreme differences in the climate, vegetation and total grazing pressure of the pastoral zone relative to the higher-rainfall temperate wool-production zones, the semi-arid range-lands require different management systems to ensure that sustainable production and their unique cultural, heritage and ecological values are maintained. As a consequence, the research requirements of the pastoral zone differ markedly from those of the temperate wool production zones.
