Stored grain aeration technology stirs interest

There is a significant learning curve ahead for grain growers keen to embrace aeration cooling and high flow aeration drying technology for on-farm grain storage. Queensland Department of Primary Industries, Toowoomba senior agronomist, Peter Hughes,said a Grains Research and Development Corporation-funded research and development scoping study undertaken during the past 12 months indicated a strong grower interest in aeration cooling and drying. Hughes said that aeration cooling technology provided an effective low-cost method of preserving the quality of high moisture stored grain. "This is not new technology as aeration cooling is widely used to safely store slightly over moisture grain for months. Purpose-built high flow rate aeration drying is a technology that has been in use prior to the 1980s," he said.
