In writing about which enterprises or what type of sheep will be most profitable in the future, it is not just future commodity prices that need to be taken into account. Farmers also need to consider seasonal and other risks, the type of country, attitudes to change, likely volatility of prices and the potential to manage such price volatility through forward contracting or other means. Your capacity or willingness to change your sheep enterprise will also depend on whether you are someone who works to a one, five or 10-year vision. In other words, there will be a whole range of factors that will influence your decision on which sheep enterprise is going to be best in the future for you.
