THE DECISION by Wool International (WI), Elders and Wes-farmers Dalgety to negotiate the development of a joint-venture wool-marketing company reveals how badly the industry is now performing. Simply, most people in the wool industry, from growers toexporters, are losing money. The wool-marketing joint venture between Wool International, the statutory authority disposing of the stockpile, and the two biggest brokers (who between them handle about 60% of the clip) clearly indicates the boards of Elders and Wesfarm-ers Dalgety have decided drastic action is needed to pull their wool-marketing businesses out of the red.
