SANDY Gibson has a lofty aim for his Native Point Merino flock at Perth in Tasmania. He wants it to be one of the 10 mainstream Tasmanian studs. The recent announcement that his flock was judged the 1996 Tasmanian Flock of the Year suggests those ambitions may have already been realised. The big win extends the fine traditions at Native Point which go back six generations to the earliest days of British settlement. The Native Point homestead itself features in many of the books written about Tasmania's fine pastoral heritage.
