Lambs prices to head down as spring turnoff accelerates

At the time of writing lamb prices on the eastern states were unseasonably strong, sitting not only at all-time highs for this time of year, but all-time highs in the history of the lamb market. It is leading some to think that lamb prices might maintain these high levels for the rest of the year. If prices have not fallen by the time this article is published, we are pretty confident lamb prices will be at least 15% lower by November. Short and medium term movements in lamb markets in Australia arelargely driven by supply which can fluctuate but generally follows a set pattern over the course of a year. Demand for lamb from domestic and export markets sets a general price level, around which prices will fluctuate depending on the over or under supply of lambs at any one time.
