摘要

Crops capable of producing economic yields when sown in spring could have a role in herbicide resistant weed (HRW) management programs. Spring crops provide an income from paddocks that may otherwise be out of production, as well as helping to prevent salinity and erosion. Experiments conducted as part of a Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) funded project in 2001/02 showed safflower, sunflower and possibly Linola~(TM) to be the most reliable crops for October sowing in Victoria's Wimmera. Although under drier conditions safflower yields appear to decline as sowing is delayed from July until October, where there is good soil moisture, delaying sowing until September appears to have little effect on yield. Good returns from safflowerhave been achieved from October sown crops at many sites in Victoria and South Australia.
