摘要

VOLUNTEER observers throughout the Murray-Darling Basin are contributing enormously to the knowledge of the relative importance of different wetlands to waterbirds and their habitat requirements. The 250 volunteers are part of the Royal Australasian Ornithologist's Union (RAOU) Murray-Darling Basin Waterbird Project which monitors more than 360 wetland sites across the Basin. The project is coordinated by Dr Michael Hutchison from the RAOU's Sydney office and it supplements and complements annual airsurveys which are part of a related project managed by Dr Richard Kingsford ofthe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
