摘要

The proper design of carburetor is essential since it affects the fuel consumption. The venturi of carburetor provides necessary pressure drop in the carburetor. Hence, the study of flow through the venturi of a carburetor is of immense significance in practical applications. With this perspective, we perform three-dimensional numerical simulations to determine the throat pressure for different throttle plate angles on the venturi of a carburetor. As a preliminary study, we analyzed the turbulent flow through a conventional venturimeter by performing numerical simulations for different Reynolds numbers. In the next stage, pressure drop, velocity magnitude and throttle plate angles are analyzed using computational fluid dynamics for the case of venturi flow through the carburetor. In the present study, the simulations are performed using commercial ANSYS FLUENT 14.0 software. The numerical results obtained under different conditions are highly significant for the optimum design of a carburetor.
