This paper discusses the application of data acquisition systems for fine tuning of fuel maps after performing dynamometer testing to obtain base fuel map. The paper focuses first on the methods and suggestions used by previous authors for making fuel maps and then elaborates about the data acquisition system, how it works and type of data can be recorded from the engine and the car using it and how it is useful to us. Then a fuel tuning strategy is proposed which is based on the behavior of the fuel map during acceleration and deceleration. The methodology of fine tuning the fuel map by using data acquisition system is also explained. Results are shown which compare the torque and power output of the engine for two different fuel maps: one which was prepared by the traditional method of dynamometer testing and the other one which was prepared using the dynamometer testing along with data acquisition techniques. It was concluded that by using the data acquisition system the performance output of the car increased and the overall fuel used also reduced substantially. This was a positive result considering that in racing there is always an effort towards getting a better performance from the car while increasing the fuel economy simultaneously.
