Australia Day has come and gone yet again. I've been in the habit of flying the red Australian merchant navy ensign on Australia Day. Remember the one? - the Australian flag on a red background rather than the blue of the Australian national flag.The ensign that flew off the taff rail of hundreds of Australian ships is now almost unrecognisable to the Australian general public. My neighbours ask me what flag is that? Never one to miss a leg-pulling opportunity I tell them it's the Australian Communist flag.
