Harwood Marine has recently delivered two 12-metre steel vessels to Nauru, known locally as "container lighters" for unloading cargo ships.The remote South Pacific location of Nauru, and steep volcanic shelves present offshore, mean that there are no local port facilities for cargo supply ships, and the ships are forced to anchor offshore.Therefore, a shuttle barge service is required to transport the shipping containers and cargo from the vessel to the shore facilities, which can only cater for small vessels.
