A thorough understanding of the psychological and social factors underlying the request for pregnancy termination is important. Some commonly cited reasons include financial difficulty and poor timing. Furthermore, fewer physicians now agree to perform abortions, and women's requests may be declined;3 however, the attitude of these women is largely unknown. In a face-to-face interview study, we evaluated the reasons for requesting termination of pregnancy and the attitude of women if their requests were refused in a regional hospital in Hong Kong.
