Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis serovars Ll-3, an infection which has been uncommon in developed counties. Recently, however, LGV has re-emerged as a problem among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Europe and North America, where the predominant presentation has been one of proctitis resulting from anorectal infection.2 Many of these men have been HTV positive.3 Five cases of anorectal LGV were detected among MSM in Melbourne and Sydney in 2005/6.
