Ivanhoe Australia Ltd has reported a net loss of $81.5 million for the first half of 2012, on the back of start-up costs processing copper and gold at its Osborne project.The news comes after a turbulent few months for the company which saw it axe up to 50 jobs in an effort to "improve performance" and save up to $10 million by creating a substantial platform for future growth.Turquise Hill Resources Ltd, the new ticker code of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd, is the company's largest shareholder with a 59% stake in Ivanhoe Australia, down from 81% in 2010.As Ivanhoe Australia's chief operating officer Mike Spreadborough said, Ivanhoe was undergoing a period of change which not only saw a reshuffling of the board, with a new chairman appointed in May and a new chief executive in June, but will soon see a new strategic partner come on board to assist with its $300 million plus Merlin project - the world's highest-grade molybdenum and rhenium project.
