My interest in detecting was aroused some years ago when a couple of friends and I hired some equipment and ventured to the Victorian goldfields. Unfortunately the only things we found were the odd bullet and assorted pieces of rubbish but the seed had been sown. Planning to spend my retirement years gold prospecting was dealt a blow when I contracted an illness called Meniere's Disease, two of the symptoms being a loss of hearing and noises in the ears called tinnitus. So, now that I lacked the good hearing necessary to detect subtle changes in signal tones and because I needed to be relatively close to medical facilities if required, I figured my detecting days were over before they had even started.
