Well, Easter was here again and I had a two-week break from work and I'd asked my sons, Scott and Mick, if they were interested in coming away with me for a three or four day detecting trip to Capeville, an old gold town site sitting on the banks of the Cape River near Pentland, west of Charters Towers. The road run was approximately 245km and with some planned halts on the way, it would take us a comfortable four hours. Just out of Charters Towers we stopped for a quick bite to eat and to stretch our legs and then made good time driving the remaining 105km to the small, sleepy town of Pentland. Just before the bridge spanning the Cape River we turned right and travelled a few kilometres before sighting that welcome bullet-holed Capeville sign. The property that the old town site is located on is named after the town.
