Models of frugality: Federal cuts have model forests scaling back projects, seeking new friends

The model forests in the Atlantic provinces are finding ways to do more with less, and ultimately reinventing themselves as self-sufficient organizations. Tom Rosser, assistant deputy minister with the Canadian Forest Service, conducted a conference call in April to inform the groups that the second five-year term oftheForestCommunities Program (FCP) will not go forward, though the federal government will continue to fund the model forests on a declining level over the next two years.
