December, January and February is a relatively relaxing season for the bonsai-ist since trees are dormant, weather is cold and heavy wiring, pruning and shaping usually are not done. Of course, if you have the facilities to keep your bonsai protected,you can do some wiring, shaping and pruning — but be sure you can keep your trees safe after you complete this task. Otherwise, wait until late February, or when the weather warms. Be sure, if you.do decide to wire, to check carefully when spring growth begins as it can quickly cause wire to cut into the bark.
