'There is just something about wood': Local company takes pride in recycling and respecting the forest

The Verboom family business has almost as many branches as the trees from which they harvest their products. From a part-time venture collecting tree seeds, managed out of their Middle Musquodobit home in 1983, Jim Verboom and his wife Karen expandedand incorporated their company in 1988, and in 2003 relocated to a two-acre warehouse site in Truro. Jim has a background in silviculture and a diploma in agricultural business from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. In the early years, Karen helped manage the home office while rearing their four young children, and continues to manage the seed collection and mulch arms of their multi-faceted enterprise.
