Statoil gas test bolsters Tanzania LNG project

Norway’s state-controlled Statoil and its upstream block par ner ExxonMobil have carried out the first successful drill stem test at the Zafarani gas field in block 2 offshore Tanzania firming up the potential for an LNG scheme in the east Africa country that would target Asia-Pacific gas markets. The Zafarani 2 drill test flowed at a maximum constraine rate of 66mn ft3/d,sufficient enough to“reduce technica uncertainties in a possible future Tanzania offshore and LNG development”,Statoil said on 3 March. Statoil is expected to jointly build an LNG project in Tanzani with a consortium led by the UK’s BG,which is developing othe gas finds in neighbouring offshore blocks 1,3 and 4.
