Poland, Ukraine take action over Gazprom Opal deal

Poland’s state-controlled PGNiG and Ukrainian counterpart Naftogaz are trying to block Gazprom’s access to extra capacity on the Opal pipeline from 31 December. They are worried that the decision by the European Commission and German energy regulator Bnetza to grant Gazprom additional capacity on Opal - an onshore continuation of the 55bn m~3/yr Nord Stream pipeline under the Baltic Sea - could lead to a drop in Russian transit flows through their countries.
