OMV-Gazprom asset swap moves ahead

Gazprom is to receive a 38.5pc stake in Austrian company OMV’s Norwegian upstream division after an asset swap agreement is concluded, most likely in the middle of next year. OMV’s board of directors agreed this week to sign a binding basic agreement with Gazprom. OMV’s Norway portfolio comprises shares in 32 licences. These assets produced 67,000 b/d of oil equivalent (boe/d) during January-September this year. In return, OMV will take a 24.98pc stake in the 4th and 5th Achimov layers at Gazprom’s Urengoi gas and condensate field in west Siberia, adding 560mn boe to its reserves. Production from the 4th and 5th layers is expected to get under way in 2019. OMV is supposed to invest some ?900mn ($956mn) in the project in 2017-39, receiving 80,000 boe/d as production peaks in 2025.
