Gas producers call for tax relief

Private-sector gas producers say Ukraine’s high subsoil taxes continue to jeopardise production. Unlike state-run firms, the private sector is still deliver- ing gas output growth. Leading private-sector producer Naftogazvydobuvannya says it shut in two wells last month, and will probably keep them off line this year. Naftogazvydobuvannya cites high sub- soil taxes and the freezing of company bank accounts. The latter is linked to a government campaign against Ukraine’s richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, whose company Dtek owns Naftogazvydobuvannya.
