TEDA-WATSON International Forum on Biotechnology and Biomedicine, Chance and challenge for development of biotech industry

TEDA-WATSON International Forum on Biotechnology and Biomedicine was hold at Binhai Area, Tianjin, China on Oct. 14-15, 2002. The theme of this forum is "Biotechnology and Chinese Economy". Eminent professional scholars and elites in the world of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry gathered in Tianjin. There were about 30 distinguished guests, they are Jan-Ake Gustafsson, Mike Poidinger, Sue Forrest, Pierre Audet-Lapointe, George Michael Stadler, Ilpo Huhtaniemi, and more than 20 academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. In the plenary lecture. Mrs. Ou Xinqian, Dr. Pi Qiansheng and Mr. Chen Chaoying spook about Chinese policies on biotechnology industry, the condition and prospect of Tianjin biotechnology industry and the blueprint of biotechnology industry promoting in TEDA, respectively. The symposium was four topics: (1) medical biotechnology; (2) biotechnology, gene and genomics; (3) biotechnological industry, government policies and bioethics; and (4) Agri-biotechnology. There were 36 oral presentations in this symposium.
