Manufacturing systems get networked

A step forward in manufacturing systems has just been demonstrated at Honeywell's Newhouse plant in Scotland. In a development from the company's Sensing and Control business unit a PC has been fully integrated into their established Smart Distributed System which networks manufacturing processes. Aimed at discrete manufacturing markets such as automotive assembly and component production, this development will accelerate the trend towards PC control and away from programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
