June's annual meeting in London of the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers was the biggest in the Association's 56 year history The record turnout of over 6000 participants doubtless reflected the overflowing order books for oil- and gas-related geophysical services and equipment, which meant companies had some spending money But EAGE was also reaping the reward of promoting itself as a multidisciplinary organisation. For example, it incorporates the Society of Petroleum Engineers' Europec conference as part of its technical conference programme. In addition EAGE's interpretation of its constituency now extends well beyond Europe: it has satellite offices in Russia and the Middle East, and in London welcomed China into its portfolio of associated societies, so its audience has become genuinely global.
