Though China does not yet have any commercial shale gas production, Beijing hopes new exploration and appraisal (E&A) campaigns will pay dividends. The country's frst fve-year plan for the development of shale gas, released on March 16 2012, sets out an ambitious production target of 6.5bcm by 2015 and 60bcm by 2020.
