Several types of emission control systems have been developing intensively to improve diesel exhaust gas emission. This paper describes the current status of these systems, including CRT and DPF for PM reduction, and NSR and CSF for NO{sub}x reduction. The latest, state-of-the-art, diesel emission control system which realizes simultaneous and continuous reduction of PM and NO{sub}x is also mentioned. The procedure for combustion improvement and characteristics of engine lubricant and fuel suitable for diesel emission control system are also discussed.
