The aim this special issue of the Journal of Nutrition, Health, and Aging is to explore novel approaches for health economics and health policy researches in dementia, with a specific focus on Alzheimer's disease (AD). The academic literature has widely explored and documented the tremendous economic burden of AD (1-8) and the cost-effectiveness of AD therapies (9-13). As new AD treatments are coming to the final phases of their development, there is need for academic contributions that explore the limits of former evaluations, provide specific suggestions to improve the design of current/future research, and suggest policy guidance to health care planners who are in charge of deciding the use and the management of new treatments.
