As a reader and an editorial board member of the ASAIO Journal, I am writing to point out what I consider to be a major mistake in the paper entitled "Collected Nondimensional Performance of Rotary Dynamic Blood Pump" by Smith et ai, published in the ASAIO journal. From the bottom lines of Page 25 to the top lines of Page 26 of the article, the authors state that "The well-known Reynolds number, the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces, is important to hydraulic machines. It must be noted that the pump Reynolds number defined in Table 1 is not a tube flow condition, and the traditional value of 2300 for laminar/turbulent flow transition is not applicable. The conventional transition value for the pump Reynolds number is approximately 500,000."#
