Perceptual color transparency refers to the phenomenon that a surface is viewed through a transparent surface. Although perceptual color transparency has been mainly discussed in connection with additive color mixture, it could be originated not only for additive but also for subtractive color mixture. This study proposes a computational model that assumed to judge the transparency based on the contrast information signaled by three color channels that span a color space of the visual system. Psychophysical experiments were performed and successfully explained by the model. Estimated parameters of the model suggest that transparency was judged based on the contrasts in perceptual opponent color space. Furthermore, it was shown that the proposed model was an approximate model of inverse optics for subtractive color mixture.
