This paper presents a new type of series hybrid system, "indirect series-parallel hybrid system" consisting of a one-way clutch, high efficiency capacitors, and a permanent magnet synchronous motor-generator. Unlike conventional series systems, the energy generated by the engine is once stored in the capacitors, which enabled the single motor configuration. The one-way clutch enables the efficient energy recovery and motoring run. The development is underway aiming at 100% fuel economy improvement.
