Characteristics of alarms and perceived urgency - a proposal of urgency-map

In recent years, the number of in-vehicle alarm sounds has been increasing with the spread of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) devices. Under the circumstances, it is important to clarify the relation between the physical characteristics of the alarm sound and the perceived urgency carried by that sound. In this paper, we propose an urgency-map that shows' the relation between the basic sound characteristics of alarms (frequency and pitch) and the individual perceived urgency.
