I recently came across the organisation Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRISi)for the first time. IRISi is a 'social enterprise established to promote and improve the healthcare response to gender-based violence'. One of the statistics in the information booklet states that 6-23% of women attending general practice will have experienced physical or sexual abuse in the last 12 months. IRISi delivers the evidence-based IRIS Programme through a collaboration between primary care and third sector organisations specialising in domestic violence and abuse (DVA). Core areas of the programme include ongoing training, education and consultancy for the clinical team and administrative staff, care pathways for primary health care practitioners and an enhanced referral pathway to specialist domestic violence services for patients with experience of DVA. The programme is designed for women but includes referral pathways for male victims and for perpetrators. The website includes information about digital consultations. Programmes beyond IRIS extend to sexual health clinics and community pharmacies.
